Summer time used to mean hanging out by a pool, a McDonald's parking lot, on a stoop, or wherever your teenage self could spend a day doing nothing. It was great, relaxing, and non-productive productive. Now, in magazine world, summer means busy time. And maybe it has been the San Francisco fog, but we have been holed in and working out a bunch of different projects. Our 15th anniversary benefit auction, our newly revamped website, and of course, this beautiful thing, the September 2009 issue starring world-renowned fine artist, Yoshitomo Nara.
Nara, fresh off a nice stay in southern Japan, gave Juxtapoz insight into his new bodies of work, showing up in Iceland, Switzerland, Los Angeles, NYC, and Japan. We also touched base with Todd Schorr prior to his museum show in San Jose, California, spoke with Zevs before his Hong Kong incident, caught up with Vans' Steve Van Doren, got a bit ghoulish with Travis Louie, sent David Choe to get nostalgic with old roommates Joe To and Rob Sato, and had YouTube's Jeben Berg head off to Japan to see how Rinpa Eshidan makes their unique visual art. September also gives a report of SLAP editor Mark Whiteley, Stanley Donwood, Richard Avedon, and the unique pairing of Danger Mouse and David Lynch.
Also make sure to visit Juxtapoz.com for all things related to the 15th Anniversary Benefit Auction.
