今号はMOCAのART IN THE STREET特集です。
Roger Gastman, Jeffrey Deitch, Bill Daniel, Jamie Reid, Mark Gonzales, Patti Astor, Joshua Blank, Invaderほか多数のインタビューや記事が掲載されています。
April 2011 marks a special issue for Juxtapoz Magazine, as we were asked by the MOCA to create a companion issue to the first major instituitional retrospective of street art, Art In the Streets. As we documented street art to a wider-audience of fine art, tattoo, pop-surreal, and illustrative art enthusiasts over our 17 years, we wanted to create an extended dialog and history with graffiti and street art pioneers.
The Art In the Streets issue was co-edited by longtime Juxtapoz contributor, Roger Gastman.
Being a San Francisco-based publication, we focused on the legacy of late Margaret Kilgallen as the newsstand cover of our Art In the Streets issue. For this particular occasion, we reprinted our interview with Kilgallen from our May/June 1999 issue. For the subscriber cover, we turned to NYC-graffiti legend, LEE Quinones.
Jeffrey Deitch, MOCA director and curator of Art In the Streets, along with Aaron Rose and Roger Gastman, told us "Doing a show like this gives you an appreciation for the role of remarkable communication." We captured that spirit in this issue, with features and profiles on various documentarians, artists, and insiders that helped preserve the history of a once-non-permanent art form.
We interviewed LEE, Bill Daniel, Jamie Reid, Fab 5 Freddy, Patti Astor, Martha Cooper, Gusmano Cesaretti, as well as special pieces with Margaret Kilgallen, Rammellzee, and a photo essay by Joshua Blank on Dash Snow. We also profile the works of Henry Chalfant, Revok, Crash, Futura, Saber, Jon Naar, ROA, Lady Pink, Invader, and Mark Gonzales.
Shepard Fairey also has an extensive conversation with curators Deitch, Rose, and Gastman.
